Alocasia Gageana is a stunning plant that can thrive both outdoors and indoors. It was first discovered in Southeast Asia.

Up to 85cm in height and comes in a 21cm pot.

Interesting Facts:

- Each leaf can grow over 2ft in sizThis plant gives a signal if it has received too much or too little water. When given too much water, it will “sweat”! The plant carries away the excess water this way, a process called “guttation”.

- Alocasia is said to be the plant in all the Western and Eastern versions of the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. It thereby stands for seizing opportunities when they arise, even when they’re risky.

Care and tips:

🌞 = Prefers indirect sunlight but will also tolerate lower lit rooms. It will just have a slower growth rate.

💧= Allow top 2 inches of soil to dry between waters, then water and be sure to drain any excess water left as this will create a root rot problem. This plant loves humidity so will be perfect for a bathroom or kitchen.

🐶🐱👶= Toxic if eaten, so keep out of reach of tiny humans and furry creatures!

Propagating:

Easy to propagate, take a stem cutting with leaves. Either place in water until roots appear or place straight into soil to root and regrow.

Things to look out for:

Overwatering: Stems and leaves have a mushy appearance and can turn yellow/brown in colour.

Underwatering: If underwatered, the leaves and stems can look empty and shrivelled/dried up.

Other common names for this plant:

- Dwarf elephant ear
- California plant
- Dwarf taro
- Giant heart plant
